The phrase "Self-Care Requires Sacrifice' came to me when I was on a zoom call on January 1, 2021. We are all separated by different states and time zones, but we had a couple of things in common. We are black female professionals in our early 30s. One friend of ours was having a particularly hard time with the idea of going to therapy. She made excuses about cost, and parental issues, and generally not wanting to go. That's when I told her girl "Self-Care Requires Sacrifice." You have to sacrifice the excuses, the temporary pleasures, the alcohol, the sex, the fear and just take care of yourself!
